Who is the Writing Residency for?

The residency is for emerging/first-time indigenous women writers. Preference will be given to those who have not previously published their work or have never been part of any kind of fellowship or residencies in Nepal.


Is this only for indigenous women of Nepal?

Yes, the residency is for indigenous women of Nepal currently based in Nepal.


Do you provide travel reimbursement?

Yes, we will provide travel reimbursement. The travel reimbursement will only cover public transport within Nepal. 


Where is the Residency going to be held?

Residency is going to be held in Gan Research & Learning Resource Centre (GRLRC) Venue, Chunikhel, Lalitpur, Nepal. 


How many days is the Residency for?

The residency programme is for three days.


When is the deadline for application?

The last deadline for the application is 11.59 PM NPT on August 5, 2025. There are no further extensions for the deadline. 


What is the language of instruction?

The language of instruction will be in both English and Nepali. All facilitators will have familiarity with the Nepali language.  


I write stories and poems. Can I apply? 

Residency is primarily designed for creative non-fiction writers. By the end of the Residency, participants are expected to contribute a piece of non-fiction writing for the booklet. If you are open to writing non-fiction and creative personal essays, we encourage you to apply


Is there an application fee?

There is no application fee for the residency. 


What selection criteria will be used?

To select our writers, we will have two rounds: 

Round 1: Shortlisting of applications based on the applications submitted. 

Round 2: Interviews with shortlisted candidates for final selection.

Are family members or partners allowed to accompany the resident?

Due to limited resources, we will not be able to support accompanying family members or partners during the residency. This can be further internally discussed with the participant on a case-by-case basis. 


What kind of writing sample should I share? 

We are open to all forms of writing for the sample, but we encourage creative writing that will give us insight into your thinking and writing process.
