Submission guidelines
The Pomelo Magazine is committed to amplifying marginalised voices and narratives from the Himalayan region.
We are a small team of women from the hills and valleys of India and Nepal, hence are committed to diminishing gaps. Those that arise from geographical differences, which accentuated our marginality in terms of politics, demography, and identity. We are pay compensate our writers and also open to bringing in new team members and imagining transcultural/national solidarities through this platform.
CALL FOR PITCHES
Winter Issue 2024-25
Deadline for pitches: 15 February, 2025
The Himalayas have long been romanticized through picturesque descriptions of blue skies, green hills, snow-capped mountains, and seasonal changes in nature. However, beneath this idyllic imagery lies a fragile ecosystem increasingly under threat. From floods in Solukhumbu, protests for climate action in Ladakh, and resistance against dam projects in Teesta and Siang rivers, to the unchecked rise of automobiles, construction, tourism, and festivals, the region faces mounting ecological and social challenges with little accountability for their impacts on local communities and biodiversity.
For the Winter Issue on Conversations with Nature (2024-2025), we invite submissions that explore the intersections of ecology, climate, and gender in the Himalayan region. We aim to amplify the voices of climate activists, researchers, and community members to shed light on overlooked perspectives.
As a Himalayan-based collective, we seek to spark critical discussions on our geographical situatedness but not limited to: What does it reveal about the politics of our state? How do man-made disasters reshape communities and gender roles?
We welcome nonfiction and creative essays that challenge the narratives of beauty while highlighting the ecological realities of this fragile landscape.
